An apparatus for producing a particulate metal or alloy having a diameter of less than 5 microns by the reaction of a molten metal or alloy with activated hydrogen. The apparatus has (1) a metal melting hearth for melting a starting metal or alloy placed thereon and supporting the molten metal or alloy, (2) a discharge electrode positioned above, and opposite to, the metal or alloy placed on the melting hearth, (3) a closed vessel for containing the melting hearth and the discharge electrode, and (4) a gas inlet port in the wall of the closed vessel for introducing hydrogen or a hydrogen-containing gas into the vessel. The apparatus includes a device for quickly moving fine particles of the metal or alloy generated from the molten metal or alloy away from the vicinity of the molten metal by means of a current of hydrogen or a hydrogen-containing gas constituted by a suction duct for sucking a gas in the vicinity of the molten metal or alloy and withdrawing it out of the vessel and which extends into the vessel through the vessel wall and opens in the vicinity of the molten metal or alloy on the melting hearth; or a device for sending hydrogen or a hydrogen-containing gas into the closed vessel so as to form a turning flow of hydrogen or the hydrogen-containing gas moving downwardly from above the molten metal on the melting hearth or upwardly from below the molten metal. The improved apparatus also includes a trap for collecting the fine metal particles connected to the suction duct, a gas outlet or a gas passage, and a gas cooler provided upstream of the trap. The apparatus of this invention makes possible the production of fine particles of a metal or alloy having a narrow particle size distribution with a high recovery ratio.
A process for producing fine particles of a metal or alloy, which comprises contacting a molten metal or alloy with activated hydrogen gas thereby to release fine particles of the metal or alloy having a diameter of less than 10 microns from the molten metal or alloy.
A process for producing ultrafine particles of a ceramic, which comprises heating a ceramic having substantially the same components as the final ultrafine ceramic particles, a metal constituting the metal component of the final ultrafine ceramic particles, a mixture of said ceramic with said metal or carbon, or a mixture of said metal with carbon by an arc plasma or a high frequency induction plasma generated in hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, a gaseous mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen, or a gaseous mixture of nitrogen and oxygen.

Amorphous Alloy means any one or more amorphous or semi-amorphous alloys (i.e., metal-based alloys having a noncrystalline atomic structure in whole or in part) or bulk metallic glasses (or composite materials containing amorphous alloys or bulk metallic glasses).
The term Amorphous Alloy includes, but is not limited to, any and all alloys that now or in the future are proprietary to Licensor, including by in-licensing, or marketed or sold under the LiquidmetalÂ® brand (collectively, Liquidmental Alloys or LiquidmetalÂ® Alloys).
Trademark shall mean the LiquidmetalÂ® mark.
The Licensor entered into a transaction with the Licensee, a South Korean corporation, under which the Licensee agreed to purchase from the Licensor various equipment (including die casting machines and vacuum induction melters) used in the bulk amorphous alloy business segment and the Licensor granted a 10-year exclusive License to manufacture products made from bulk Liquidmetal alloys for customers whose principal headquarters or whose major operations are located in South Korea. The Licensor is a materials technology company that develops and commercializes products made from amorphous alloys. Their LiquidmetalÂ® family of alloys consists of a variety of proprietary coatings, powders, bulk alloys, and composites that utilize the advantages offered by amorphous alloy technology.

Licensor has developed unique processing methodology for producing nanostructures in a wide range of ductile metals and alloys and is now commercializing this new and revolutionary technology.
The IP-Related or Related IP is all IP concerning production of ultrafine grain or nanostructured metals and alloys, but not including IP concerning other concepts, e.g., devices or systems. even if made from ultrafine grain or nanostructured metals and alloys.
The Royalty-bearing Technology is (a) The Licensed Technology; (b) Related IP developed by either party or jointly by the parties; and (c) Related IP acquired from the Monash. Australia research group with which Rimma Lapovok is affiliated.
ECAP-C. Equal Channel Angular Pressing – Conform.
Licensee will fully develop, manufacture and market a new class of high strength metals. proprietary process will enable super-strength metals and alloys to make products that weigh far less than in the past and without significant cost premiums.
Licensee will advance and implement ECAP-C and other Royalty-bearing Technology to allow production of rod up to 0.25' in diameter from titanium.
Licensee is a leader in the development, manufacture and distribution of wrought and powder metallurgy stainless and specialty alloys, as well as titanium alloys in product forms ranging from large-diameter billet and hollow bar to fine wire. Licensee provides materials solutions to the ever-changing needs of the automotive, aerospace, energy, industrial, medical, defense, and consumer products industries.
With this agreement the Parties will cooperate fully in bringing to market products derived from the Licensor technology or technology developed as a result of access to Licensors expertise and contacts in the field.

Hydride Batteries shall mean one or more rechargeable nickel metal hydride electrochemical ceil(s) employed alone or in combination.

Licensed Consumer Hydride Batteries of all types, shapes and configurations, are for portable consumer applications, including but not limited to cell phones, cameras, toys, power tools and computers, and that embody or otherwise use the technologies described in the Licensed Patents. The use of such Hydride Batteries for all vehicular applications (including two or more wheeled vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles), whether for propulsion or SLI (starting, lighting and ignition) applications, is specifically excluded.
License is to use certain patents owned by Licensor to manufacture Ni-MH batteries for portable consumer applications (â€œConsumer Batteriesâ€) in the PRC.

Licensor Industrial Property Rights shall mean all Confidential Information and, whether or not the following constitute Confidential Information, all of Licensors patents, licenses, trademarks, trade names, inventions, inventors notes, copyrights, formulea know-how, trade secrets, drawings and designs relating to the Business represented by the Licensed Technology.

The Intragene-TM- process is a proprietary methodology developed by metallurgists and materials scientists at the Company and has been granted six U.S. patents as well as national phase patents based on two European patent applications and three Japanese patents. The Intragene-TM- process facilitates the ability to metallize, solder or braze a wide range of engineering ceramics, graphite and refractory metals.
The materials division product line consists of Intragene-TM–based sputtering target assemblies and electromagnet systems. The sputtering target assemblies have been sold into the rigid disk market since 1986 and are considered one of the most reliable such assemblies in the market today. Sputtering target assemblies are sold to end-users as source materials for coating other materials via a vacuum-based process called sputtering. Sputtering is employed as the primary method for depositing thin film functional and protective layers on rigid magnetic media (hard disks), as well as in many semiconductor-manufacturing operations. Once a target is made, it must usually be incorporated into the sputtering apparatus by joining it to a backing plate to make sound electrical, thermal and mechanical contact. (a) an exclusive license to use the Technology and Know-How in the Territory and within the Fields of Use, as described in this Agreement by this reference; and
