License Grant
Under the Agreements, the Licensee was granted certain rights to technologies related to the manufacture of particle analysis systems, including a particle analyzing mass spectrometer.

Mass spectrometry is an important technique for the analysis of chemicals in a wide variety of industries such as pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, polymer and consumer products.  Mass spectrometry is used to identify unknown chemicals, quantify known materials, and to determine the structural and chemical properties of molecules.  It determines the mass-to-charge ratio of ions by measuring the time it takes for the ion to reach the detector.

License Property
Licensor's Patents means U.S. Patent No. 5,382,794 entitled 'Laser Induced Mass Spectrometry' and U.S. Patent No. 5,631,462 entitled 'Laser-Assisted Particle Analysis', to be issued in mide-1997, as well as any continuation, division, and any foreign equivalents of the foregoing.

License Grant
The University Licensor grants an exclusive license to make, have made, use, lease, and sell the Licensed Products, and practice, sublicense or otherwise enforce the Patent Rights, subject only, however, to a reservation of rights by Licensor for itself and University to make, have made and use the Licensed Products or otherwise exploit the Patent Rights for research and educational purposes.
License Property
Licensed Products means any apparatus, device, system, product, article, appliance, method or process covered in whole or in part by a pending claim in a pending application within the Patient Rights or an unexpired claim in a patent within the Patent Rights.

The 'Invention' means all inventions, proprietary developments, data and/or information owned as of the Effective Date by IU-ARTI relating to Method and Apparatus Providing Improved Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer Resolution, Invention Number 9404.

Time-of-flight mass spectrometry is a method of mass spectrometry in which an ion's mass-to-charge ratio is determined via a time measurement. Ions are accelerated by an electric field of known strength.

Laser Desorption Ionization and peptide Sequencing on Laser Induced Microcolumn  Arrays   8,084,734

Nanophotonic Production, Modulation  and Switching of Ions by Silicon Microcolumn Arrays  8,110,796

Laser desorption ionization (LDI) based on laser-induced silicon microcolumn arrays was developed for mass spectrometry (MS) of biomolecules and other natural and synthetic products. The technique enables one to obtain intact molecular mass at low laser power and structural information (such as, e.g., peptide sequence) from in-source decay (ISD) and/or post-source decay (PSD) at high laser power. It can be used for small molecule analysis and peptide sequencing without using matrix molecules required for matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) or surface enhanced laser desorption ionization (SELDI).

Field of Use
The term Field of Use means only products and services for investigative and exploratory research and human and veterinary diagnostic use.

IPSCIO Record ID: 822
