License Grant
The Company, a nonprofit applied science and technology development company, hereby grants to LICENSEE, to the extent of the LICENSED FIELD and in each of the LICENSED TERRITORIES 1, 2, 3 and 4, an exclusive license to practice and have practiced the INVENTIONS under the PATENTS relating to recovery of ammonia from fluid waste streams.
License Property
INVENTIONS means patented and unpatented the Company proprietary technology related to apparatus and process for the recovery of ammonia from fluid waste streams. Ammonia  Recovery Process ('ARP') is a patent-pending process designed to recover ammonia from dilute waste streams. The removed and concentrated ammonia can thereafter be converted to nitrogen (N2) or recovered as a salt, such as ammonium sulfate (NH2)2SO4), packaged and sold worldwide as a commercial grade fertilizer. ARP's primary market is municipal wastewater treatment and treating wastewater discharge from concentrated animal farming operations, such as for the dairy, beef, poultry or pork industry.
Field of Use
LICENSED FIELD means, and is limited to, the practice of the INVENTIONS as applied to waste streams from municipal waste water treatment facilities and the practice of the INVENTIONS  applied to waste streams in commercial  agricultural livestock production facilities.

LIMITED NONEXCLUSIVE PATENT AND COPYRIGHT LICENSE AGREEMENT For CAPACITIVE DEIONIZATION TECHNOLOGY For Brackish Water/Sea Water Desalination and Treatment of Heat Exchanger and Boiler Water, Industrial and Commercial Process Water, and Ultrapure Industrial Water

Certain copyrightable works and inventions, characterized as capacitive deionization process using carbon aerogel electrodes and software to automate the deionization and regeneration process.

The Licensed Patents
5,425,858 Method and Apparatus for Capacitive Deionization, Electrochemical Purification, and Regeneration of Electrodes
5,260,855 Supercapacitors Based on Carbon Foams
5,420,168 Method of Low Pressure and/or Evaporative Drying of Aerogel

Field of Use
'Fields of Use' means a)Brackish Water/Sea Water Desalination, and b)Treatment of Heat Exchanger and Boiler Water, Industrial and ommercial Process Water, and Ultrapure Industrial Water.

The Company’s capacitive deionization technology, or CDT, uses deionization to convert a contaminated water supply into a clean water stream and a waste stream.   As implemented by the Company, the technology involves coating pairs of electrodes with a carbon coating known as carbon aerogel.  The carbon aerogel is porous and has an extremely high ratio of ion collection area to surface area, due to the structure of the areogel.  The carbon aerogel is porous and has an extremely high ratio of ion collection area to surface area, due to the structure of the aerogel.  The ion collection area presented by carbon aerogel is greater than 60,000 times the surface area of the electrode. In the Company's system, a salt water or impure water stream is passed through an electrostatic field established between pairs of electrodes coated with carbon aerogel.  The negative electrode attracts positively charged ions such as chloride or nitrate. Those ions are pulled out of suspension of the water stream and held by the electrodes in the carbon aerogel, until either the power is turned off or the electrode charge is reversed. As a result, with a relatively low application of energy, the Company's technology is able to remove a wide variety of contaminants or other molecules from a water stream through the creation and holding of charged particles.

License Grant
The licensor conceded to the licensee, who accepts, a licence to exploit the French patent application No. 00 07642, and the international patent application PCT/FR01/01817 plus any patents that may be derived from them.
License Property
This patent involves a “purification process of sewage effluents'.  The patent was registered in France on June 15, 2000 and applies to a purification process for sewage effluents which process is incorporated into the clarification stage of the Licensee water treatment process.  The first stage of water treatment in the water treatment process is the process of clarification. This clarification process incorporates two patented processes. The first process is a physiochemical treatment based on the principle of reversed mud layer. After pumping the water effluent that is to be treated, a re-agent is injected into the water which allows elements present in the effluent to coagulate and flocculate. This process creates a mud layer which remains inside a cone within the water treatment apparatus. This mud layer serves as a filter which allows for more important purification of water. The mud is then recovered from the cone and is pumped intermittently within the apparatus. When the water leaves the mud layer it is clarified and then goes into a filtering mass.
