Yttrium-barium-copper oxide (YBCO) patents and patent applications are fundamental to the high temperature superconductor (HTS) industry.
The patents on HTS compounds include YBCO 123, barium-strontium-calcium-copper-oxide (BSCCO) 2212 and BSCCO 2223. The portfolio also contains patents on wire manufacturing methods, including the oxide-powder-in-tube (OPIT) technology and end-use applications ranging from communications and power generation to medical imaging and magnetic levitation.

Licensor grants to Licensee a worldwide, non-exclusive license under the Future Patents of Licensor to make, use, sell and offer to sell Products and Products contained in products, with the right of Licensee to grant sub-licenses under that license only to its Subsidiaries. A Have Made Right for Products under the Future Patents of Licensor is also granted to Licensee. For the avoidance of doubt, the license to make, use, sell and offer to sell Products contained in products is limited to the Products themselves and does not include a license to a combination of the Products with the products in which they are contained.
Products shall mean Bi-based superconducting wires, and magnets, coils and current leads including Bi-based superconducting wires. For clarity, Products do not include other products which incorporate Bi-based wires, magnets, coils or current leads as a component of a larger system.
Wire Products shall mean Bi-based superconducting wires. For clarity, Wire Products exclude magnets, coils, current leads and other products, but include the Wire Products contained in any magnet, coil, current lead or other product.
Rotating Machinery Products shall mean superconducting rotating machines, including but not limited to motors, generators and dynamic synchronous condensers. Rotating Machinery Products shall also mean superconducting coils per se, intended for use in rotating machinery applications.
Bismuth-based superconducting material is made of bismuth – strontium – calcium – copper – oxygen (Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O). The 2223 phase with composition ratio of Bi(partially Pb), Sr, Ca and Cu is 2223 has high critical temperature (110 K) and therefore is attracting much attention as a commercially viable material since its discovery.

SUPERCONDUCTIVE RESONATOR(S) means a resonating device of a design primarily to use a SUPERCONDUCTIVE MATERIAL to preferentially pass, reject or couple a band of digital or RF signals from one part of an electrical circuit to another by employing superconductive properties. Such SUPERCONDUCTOR RESONATORS include circuits contained therein and, if provided therewith, supporting means, terminal members, packaging, housing means, and any environmental controlling means included within such housing means or unitary therewith.
Type 1 licensed product means any device that uses a superconductive filter or superconductive resonator except a device that would constitute a Type 2 licensed product. For avoidance of doubt, such Type 1 licensed product may also include any assemblages or devices integrated with, included in the same housing means, or unitary with such superconductive filter or superconductive resonator.
Type 2 licensed product means a device that 1) uses a superconductive filter or superconductive resonator; and 2) is primarily designed to processes both received and transmitted signals in a wireless transmission system, where the processing of the transmitted signals is a substantial portion of the transit chain in a wireless transmission system; and 3) includes at least one transmit amplifier; and 4) the fair market value of such a device is at least forty thousand United States dollars ($40,000.00 U.S.).
